The parents of the students learned that the Arthés primary school was targeted by a class closure by the national education services. Elementary teachers are appreciated by the children who go to school with pleasure. The Arthès teaching team is recognized for its work, its seriousness and its commitment to all children, particularly those with academic difficulties. For 2025, the enrollment in the elementary school is 128 students for six classes, promoting a peaceful working climate for students and teachers. The 2026 school year foresees a slight drop of 8 students, but, for the 2027 school year, the number would increase to 128 students taking into account the nursery school numbers and not counting potential new arrivals. In the event of the closure of a closed class, the others would have more than 24 students, which would degrade learning and teaching conditions, especially for students with specific needs. For the start of the 2027 school year, classes would reach 26 to 28 students, a threshold considered excessive. A closed class is rarely reopened. “This situation does not make it possible to guarantee satisfactory learning conditions for all students and in particular the most vulnerable. The promise of the republican school aims to ensure the success of each student, whatever their profile, seems to us to be undermined by this planned class closure. Furthermore, housing will be built in the commune, which implies the arrival of new families and the registration of their children in Arthés schools”, specify the parents of the students. In 2025, the town hall completed major renovation work on the elementary school with the help of the State, the Region, the Department, and the C2A representing for the municipality, a considerable financial effort (1.3 million euros).

At Arthès, parents and the parents’ association refuse to see the children’s future compromised. The Arthès town hall supports them 100%. It is fully mobilized to preserve the quality of life in its schools. The parents contacted the academic director by letter, contacted elected officials and obtained the support of the Albi Parents’ Council Federation, as well as teaching union organizations such as the Unitary Trade Union Federation. They also displayed their discontent and their determination in the town with several banners. A meeting is given to parents on Thursday April 9 at 8 a.m. in front of the elementary school with the presence of elected officials.
