Take Action was launched 10 years ago. This is an educational project focused on exploration and career guidance. It helps children and young people discover their path through direct contact with professions and businesses in the Douro region.

The Bagos D’Ouro association said in a statement today that the project has helped dispel the belief that a better future involves leaving the region. It shows that the Douro also offers viable and inspiring routes.

The 2026 edition will take place from today to Wednesday. Around forty young people from lower and upper secondary schools are taking part. They will have the opportunity to meet more than 50 companies in the region.

For 10 years, Take Action has given young people the tools to choose their path with complete confidence. He shows them that the future may be closer than they think. The Douro region can be a hotbed for the talents of new and future generations, said Maria Inés Taveira, general coordinator of Bagos D’Ouro, in the press release.

She added that people can only decide with full knowledge of the facts. Direct contact with the world of work is essential to broaden horizons and strengthen links with the region.

Take Action was created specifically to broaden horizons and raise awareness of career opportunities available in the region, by enabling young people to come into direct contact with sectors ranging from hospitality to medicine, journalism to sport, teaching and computer engineering.

The project is structured in different stages which follow the educational journey of the participants.

Take Action Kids is aimed at 5th and 6th grade students and offers a first introduction to the world of work, followed by Take Action I for 8th and 9th grade students, Take Action II for secondary school students, with more in-depth experiences and direct contact with businesses, and Take Action Uni, which supports year 12 students, vocational students and higher education students.

Created in 2010, the non-profit association began its work in São João da Pesqueira, in the district of Viseu, and in Sabrosa, in the district of Vila Real.

Today it operates in Alijó, Carrazeda de Ansiães, Tabuaço, Armamar, Murça and Mesão Frio, supporting, during the academic year 2025/26, more than 240 children and young people from around 140 families in the Douro region.
