BTS GPN Campus Terre et Nature students from the Charlemagne high school were able to discover, this March 31, the biodiversity of Carcassonne airport and participate in a morning in the field devoted to floristic and faunal inventories on these airport spaces.
Divided into three groups, they participated in different field workshops, such as the workshop on botanical protocol, with the identification and recognition of plant species as well as scouting work to observe the diversity and dynamics of species. Another workshop was aimed at ornithology, listening and identifying bird species on the site. The last focused on a herpetofauna workshop in which students installed reptile plates to help monitor the population of snakes and lizards on the site.
The students were welcomed by the airport director, Cyril Dall’Ava as well as Sandrine Brevet, Environment Quality manager for Carcassonne and Perpignan airports and two naturalists from the national association, “Aerobiodiversity”. The immersion made it possible to raise awareness among future professionals about the sustainable management of natural spaces, including in contexts such as Carcassonne airport.
