On the morning of April 5, more than 137,000 students across the country officially began the first phase of the entrance exam to the University of He Chi Minh City (NUHCM). “This is a record number for a single examination phase, demonstrating the growing appeal and importance of this admission method in the academic journey of the next generation of students,†NUHCM said.

This year, the exam was held simultaneously in 57 exam centers across 15 provinces and cities, from the Central and Central Highlands regions to the far south of Ca Mau. Within this vast network, according to the Vietnam National University in He Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM), the University of Technology had the largest number of examination centers, with 155 rooms spread across its two campuses, accommodating more than 5,500 candidates. In order to guarantee the integrity and security of the tests, the university mobilized a large team of nearly 550 invigilators and 120 volunteers, who worked tirelessly from early in the morning.

Observations conducted at major examination centers in the urban area of Vietnam National University in He Chi Minh City, such as the University of Science, the University of Information Technology, the University of Social and Human Sciences, and the University of Economics and Law, showed that the atmosphere has become tense very early. Although candidates are only supposed to enter and take their seats at 7:30 a.m., by 6:00 a.m. many students had already arrived to check the placement and finalize the formalities.
Many groups of students, such as those from Hiep Binh, Binh Chieu and Long Truong high schools, took advantage of the last minutes to revise together and relax with encouraging smiles before facing the 150-minute test.

A particularly touching moment from the first day of exams was the unwavering support of the student volunteers. At the University of Information Technology examination center, a minor incident occurred: a candidate had forgotten his ID card and was having difficulty logging into the VNeID application. Thanks to the responsiveness of the team of volunteers who provided him with technical assistance and contacted his family, the candidate was able to complete the formalities on time and access the examination room as planned.

Simple but concrete actions, such as distributing water, indicating directions or regulating traffic by volunteers, helped to establish a positive state of mind among exam candidates.

Outside the examination room, many parents waited patiently, hoping that their children would obtain high scores (900 to 1000) to lay a solid foundation for the college entrance examination.

At exactly 8:30 a.m., all the candidates officially began their tests. Designed to comprehensively assess critical reasoning skills, this first exam session of 2026, through a diversified structure, aimed not only to obtain the best scores, but also to test the aptitude of candidates before their entry into university. According to the Admissions Council of the National University of He Chi Minh City, the results of this session will be announced on April 17, providing the brightest candidates with the opportunity for early admission.
