The National Federation of Hearing Aid Students carried out a detailed survey of students from 10 schools to assess their housing conditions and the difficulties they encounter in this area.
Future audios that responded to the survey belong to all schools except Paris. This clarification is important because housing in the capital is generally more expensive than anywhere else. The results should therefore be interpreted as a minimum.

First observation, a majority of the students questioned (76% women, 23% scholarship holders) are housed in the private park. This reality is explained according to Fnea by the disproportion between the needs and the supply of accommodation in Crous: 1 for 17 students. This results in an average additional cost of 180 euros per month, but also sometimes degraded housing conditions: more than a quarter (28.4% of respondents) declare themselves in a situation of poor housing.
A hearing aid student pays on average 528 euros in rent per month (excluding Paris).
This cost obviously puts a strain on the student budget, even if 71% of young people surveyed by Fnea receive housing assistance (APL) – note that people undergoing retraining are often no longer entitled to it. Another important item, transport represents on average 94.1 euros per month.
47.7% of future audios are therefore forced to have a paid job alongside their studies. And 65.5% depend on their parents for housing. Despite this, the remaining living expenses of students after paying their rent are particularly low: 22.2% have less than 100 euros for the month, 34.4% less than 150 euros and 43.3% less than 200 euros.
Added to this is the problem of compulsory internships, which do not necessarily take place in the same geographical area as that of the school. Result: 40.6% of students are required to pay 2 rents during these periods and 16.6% experienced a change of accommodation during the year due to an internship.
Nearly 9 out of 10 students are in a school more than an hour from their parental home.
Considering that housing is one of the main factors making students more insecure, Fnea, with Fage (Federation of General Student Associations), is making numerous demands: on the extension of the rent control applied in certain cities, on the ban on rent supplements and on controls on fraudulent real estate practices, the development by the State of student housing and the facilitation of access to social housing for young people or even the indexing of all aid for young people to inflation.
