Since 2018 and the development of learning aids
lucrative private higher education is booming. At the same time, FAGE has observed an explosion in the number of students in distress facing these establishments. “Nearly 50% of the approximately 3,000 annual contacts concern students who encounter problems linked to lucrative private schools”reports Suzanne Nijdam.
Institutions sometimes “qualifiees of predators”presenting an operation focused on profitability, affirmed Julien Besch-Carrière, responsible for academic affairs at FAGE, during a round table on the subject in the Senate, in February.
In the eyes of the Student Union, the indefinite postponement of this measure would confirm that the regulation of the private for profit sector does not constitute, for the government, a “real priority”.
Especially since with this postponement, student associations fear that the bill will not be examined before the 2027 presidential election, jeopardizing “the future of thousands of students”. “We have been asking for this text for years and we have been pushing it for a very long time”deplores Suzanne Nijdam, who warns of the urgency of regulating the delivery of diplomas by these establishments, and of legislating on certain abusive practices, such as reservation fees.
