8 billion neighbors – Scientific teachings in danger, influencers to the rescue?

Are scientific fields still attractive? While certain school reforms and orientation choices seem to distance some students from mathematics or physics-chemistry, another dynamic is emerging in parallel: that of popularizing science on social networks.

On TikTok, YouTube or Instagram, teachers and content creators accumulate thousands – sometimes millions – of subscribers by making science more accessible, concrete and attractive. Short videos, references to pop culture, examples taken from everyday life or current events: everything is implemented by these “teacher-influencers » to capture attention and generate interest.

What if, without even realizing it, students were revising while scrolling? But in an era which prefers emotions and beliefs to scientific knowledge, can this new way of transmitting knowledge really reconcile young people with these demanding disciplines? And how can we combine these digital formats with traditional classroom teaching?
