Iran threatens American universities and tech companies in the Middle East

New York University (NYU) decides to close its Abu Dhabi campus, announces The New York Times. The measure follows a threatening statement from the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.

“Abu Dhabi campus closed until further notice after Iran warned on Saturday [28 mars] that American universities with branches in the Gulf had become ‘legitimate targets’. University authorities immediately banned all students, faculty and staff from entering the campus. reports the American daily. The university also closed its study center in Tel Aviv.

Created in 2010, NYU Abu Dhabi welcomes approximately 2,200 students from 120 countries. Since the beginning of March, after several Iranian missile strikes near the campus, classes have been taking place remotely, “but the campus remained open and continued to provide essential services†. Like other foreign educational establishments established in the Gulf, NYU Abu Dhabi has also helped some of its students to leave the region.
