It was the news that many parents were waiting for. In Dubai, schools are extending distance learning for at least two more weeks. A decision taken in a tense regional context, with the authorities prioritizing the safety of students and staff while ensuring educational continuity.
This decision was made official by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), which oversees the emirate’s private establishments.
Â
An extended system after the spring break
Initially implemented on a temporary basis, distance learning is being maintained to ensure the safety and well-being of students, educational staff and the community as a whole.
This extension comes following the spring holidays, which had been brought forward by one week in the school calendar.
During this period, students and administrative staff will continue to work remotely.
Â
A return to face-to-face possible under conditions
Private establishments wishing to resume face-to-face classes can, however, submit an official request to the KHDA.
These requests must include:
- a clear justification
- the specific circumstances
- the conditions of recovery
Each file will be examined on a case-by-case basis, then submitted for approval to the Ministry of Education.
The education authorities, in coordination with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, will reassess the situation every week.

Flexible teleworking for parents
At the same time, flexibility measures have been put in place for parents working in the public service.
Teleworking is now authorized for mothers and fathers whose functions allow it, in particular for those with registered children:
- in crèche
- in kindergarten
- or up to 8th grade (college equivalent)
This initiative, launched in coordination with the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources, is part of the “Year of the Family”.
