As 7 out of 10 nursing students are considering dropping out of their program due to deteriorating training conditions, the National Federation of Nursing Students (Fnesi) has launched the ESI’meter, a self-assessment tool for evaluating the quality of the training environment. Press release.

Mental health, a major issue of the year 2025, renewed in 2026, was announced by the Government. However, according to annual statistics, over a hundred nursing students contact Fnesi by email every month, and more than 10 students call the Fnesi helpline daily. In 2025, based on the Fnesi Wellness survey, 7 out of 10 students had already considered quitting the training.

The ESI’meter, a self-assessment tool for evaluating the quality of the training environment.

One year after the release of the 2025 Wellness survey, Fnesi provides a concrete solution to address the mental health deterioration of students: the ESI’meter. This tool is a social barometer that allows students to assess the quality of the training they receive. Unaware of the often trivialized actions, students are victims of a profound dysfunction in the training system.

The training conditions of nursing students are alarming. They need to be prevented, addressed, and sanctioned. Students need to be supported.

With 7 out of 10 nursing students already considering quitting the training, it is essential to raise awareness among educators about the training conditions of nursing students. While the desire to train more leads to a degradation of the training and normalizes situations that should not be tolerated. This tool, designed from Fnesi’s regular wellness surveys, highlights the issues that too many students face. It allows the evaluation of the training environment for nursing students. Faced with such violence, educators must be concerned. Let’s work together for the training conditions of future professionals!

The caregivers of tomorrow should not be sacrificed.

The ESI’meter is a solution provided by Fnesi but should not replace concrete actions for the well-being of nursing students. At the verge of a training reform, there remains inequality between nursing students and students on university campuses. Access to university services, and more broadly the university as a central player in training, guaranteed for all nursing students, would be a major step towards improving their health.

Fnesi emphasizes the need for equal access to university for all students in higher education.
