The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran warned Sunday that it now considers all Israeli and American universities in the Middle East as “legitimate targets” following attacks on Iranian universities.
TEHRAN, March 29 (Xinhua) — The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran warned Sunday that it now considers all Israeli and American universities in the Middle East as “legitimate targets” following attacks on Iranian universities.
The IRGC issued this warning through its official media Sepah News, in response to attacks on the University of Science and Technology in the capital Tehran on Saturday and on the University of Technology in the central city of Isfahan on Thursday.
It stated that all Israeli and American universities will remain legitimate targets until Iran launches retaliatory strikes against two of them.
The IRGC cautioned educational staff, students, and those living near universities, advising them to stay at least a kilometer away from the establishments to avoid being injured or killed.
It demanded that Washington issue an official condemnation of the attacks on universities before noon local time on Monday (08:30 GMT) if it wants its universities in the region to be spared.
In a message posted Saturday night on the social network X, the spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esma’il Baghaei, stated that “the University of Technology in Isfahan and the University of Science and Technology in Tehran are just two examples among the many research centers and universities intentionally attacked by aggressors in their unlawful war against the Iranian nation over the past 30 days.”
“In fact, the American-Israeli aggression against Iran continues to reveal its true objective: endangering the scientific foundations and cultural heritage of our country by systematically targeting universities, research centers, historic monuments, and prominent scientists,” he added.
These developments come as the conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran began on February 28, and intense clashes continue between the parties. No progress has been made towards a ceasefire on the 30th day of the conflict this Sunday.
