Martin Suter, the 78-year-old successful author, is always busy: he has released a new book of “Business Class” columns, is working on an opera with Stephan Eicher, and always ties a tie in the morning before sitting down at his desk. Suter, born in 1948 in Zurich, is one of the most successful contemporary authors in the German-speaking world. He started his career as a writer in 1991 and is known for satirical texts that mock the self-centered behavior of business leaders. In addition to his columns, novels, crime stories, and screenplays, Suter also writes lyrics for Stephan Eicher’s songs. A joint opera collaboration between the two friends is nearing completion. Suter’s writing encompasses various forms and genres, with each piece crafted in a language that suits the content. Despite personal losses and hardships, Suter avoids making his writing a form of therapy, aiming to maintain a certain distance from his own life in his novels. His biggest wish related to his writing is to continue creating for a long time to come.
