Monarca Sol Collective founder, Erica Gutierrez, spoke at the grand opening ceremony for the cultural boutique at The Paseo in Pasadena on Sunday, March 23, 2026. The store aims to provide a space that resonates with the ancestral connection of its visitors. Mayor Victor Gordo and artist Lalo Alcaraz were present at the event, which featured Aztec dancers and native blessings.

Gutierrez shared her experience of struggling to find a sense of belonging in her community due to the lack of representation of her heritage. As the founder of Monarca Sol Collective, she aims to create a safe space for Latino entrepreneurs and artists. The store also focuses on supporting Latino families affected by the Eaton fire.

Hilda Marella Delgado of Viva Altadena emphasized the importance of spaces like Monarca Sol in preserving culture and community identity. The collaborative efforts among local businesses aim to provide a platform for advocacy, intergenerational connection, and mutual aid.

Artist and political cartoonist Lalo Alcaraz donated proceeds from a print to support Eaton fire survivors at the opening of Monarca Sol. The collective welcomes volunteers and donations to sustain the space. Mayra Ruano, owner of GlowIn Beauty and Wellness, highlighted the support and resources provided by Gutierrez in her entrepreneurial journey.

Monarca Sol Collective represents a new beginning for those seeking to reconnect with their heritage and shared stories. Gutierrez hopes that by exploring their indigeneity, visitors will discover the common threads that unite them with their ancestors and traditions.
