In the afternoon of April 1st, at the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Professor Doan Minh Huan, a member of the Politburo and director of the Academy, met with the ambassadors of Australia and India in Vietnam to guide and promote cooperation programs in research and training for senior officials.
During a meeting with Australian Ambassador Gillian Bird, the Academy’s director, Doan Minh Huan, expressed his satisfaction with the positive developments in the Vietnam-Australia comprehensive strategic partnership.
Professor Doan Minh Huan emphasized that the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics is ready to contribute to promoting closer cooperation between the two countries through academic exchanges, policy research, and sharing visions in a rapidly changing world due to geopolitical upheavals, digital transformation, and ecological transition.
The director thanked the Australian government for its active support in enhancing the capacity of Vietnamese senior leaders.
To strengthen future cooperation, Professor Doan Minh Huan proposed to continue promoting the role of the Vietnam-Australia Center within the Academy and hoped that Australia would share its experience and support green transformation projects related to green growth, urban development management, creative economy, heritage preservation, and addressing social security challenges in the digital age. He also expressed hope for promoting specialized diplomacy between scholars and research institutes of both countries.
Ambassador Gillian Bird commended Professor Doan Minh Huan on his election to the Politburo and appointment as director of the Academy. She stated that Australia views Vietnam as an extremely important partner and appreciates how Vietnam balances economic development, ecological transition, and social inclusion.
Australia is determined to implement Phase 2 of the cooperation program (from 2027 to 2035) with key pillars such as digital transformation, gender equality, ecological transition, and human rights. Australia also seeks to collaborate with the Academy in developing the Provincial Governance Performance Index (PAPI) and respectfully invites the Academy’s director to co-chair the project steering committee.
During the reception for Indian Ambassador Tshering W. Sherpa, Director Doan Minh Huan praised the traditional and faithful friendship and deep political trust between the two countries. He recognized significant room for progress in cooperation as both countries prepare to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership.
Looking ahead, Professor Doan Minh Huan suggested maximizing the role of the Academy’s Indian Studies Center to organize scientific seminars, facilitate investments, expand training programs for Vietnamese leaders in India, and promote a strategic dialogue on policies and theories between the Communist Party of Vietnam and India’s ruling BJP Party through party foreign relations channels.
Ambassador Tshering W. Sherpa thanked Professor Doan Minh Huan for the meeting and exchange of views, stating that he always considers Vietnam a close friend. He affirmed that both countries are preparing numerous activities to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership and fully agreed with the Director’s proposals.
Ambassador Sherpa respectfully invited the Academy’s director to visit India as a distinguished guest of the Indian government and proposed signing a memorandum of cooperation between Nalanda University and the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics during an upcoming high-level visit. He also expressed interest in collaborating with the Academy to organize seminars on Buddhist culture.
