JAKARTA – Indonesian and Australian Officials Discuss Strengthening Cooperation on Productivity and E-Government

The Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, discussed enhancing cooperation on productivity with Australia, covering topics such as e-government implementation, developing an adaptive workforce, and national recommendations on artificial intelligence (AI).

Airlangga had this discussion while receiving the Head of the Australian Productivity Commission, Danielle Wood, and the Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Roderick Brazier, in Jakarta on Friday, March 27. The meeting also highlighted enhancing human resources and economic resilience between Indonesia and Australia in the face of global pressures.

“Amid a dynamic global scenario full of challenges, Indonesia focuses on enhancing productivity reduction movements in line with efficiency applications to drive sustainable economic growth,” stated Minister Airlangga.

One of the priorities is the implementation of government studies on e-Government applications. According to Airlangga, this measure has the potential to increase productivity, even when efficiency policies are in place.

Airlangga also expressed support for continuing the PROSPERA program. In the program’s second phase, the Indonesian government welcomes the participation of the Australian Productivity Commission in providing evidence-based policy recommendations to support policy reform and enhance national productivity.

“In the framework of PROSPERA Phase II, the Australian Productivity Commission is expected to conduct research on developing a workforce tailored to technological advancements. Additionally, formulating national recommendations on AI usage in Indonesia is an important aspect to consider,” stated Airlangga.

He also emphasized tax reform as a national priority agenda and hopes this issue will be a focal point in PROSPERA Phase II.

Meanwhile, Danielle Wood stated that Australia is prepared to enhance cooperation to strengthen the capacity of the public services sector to boost productivity, investment, and sustainable economic growth.

At the end of the meeting, Brazier reaffirmed the Australian government’s support for Indonesia’s accession process to the OECD and the CPTPP.
