Medical students from the Free University of Brussels (ULB) and the University of Mons (UMons), meeting Monday evening in a general assembly, voted by more than 99% to boycott the guards at the Brussels University Hospital (HUB) and at the Marie Curie civil hospital in Charleroi, according to information from Le Soir confirmed Tuesday in Belga by the Office of Student Administrators (BEA) of the ULB.
At ULB, almost half of the voters even want to extend the strike to all hospitals, indicated the coordinator of the student council, Ethan Rigaux.
This general meeting followed the HUB’s decision to no longer pay for childcare provided by students within its network.
Around 300 students from the medical faculties of ULB and UMons are on call every month in the three HUB establishments (the Jules Bordet Institute, the Erasme hospital and the Queen Fabiola children’s university hospital).
A meeting will be held Tuesday morning between student organizations and university authorities.
