The fight against the far right constitutes a central issue for trade unionism. As such, the future electoral deadlines of 2027 must be taken seriously by trade union organizations and the social movement as a whole. In the summer of 2024, following the dissolution of the National Assembly by E. Macron and faced with the risk of seeing the RN take the government, SUD education had chosen to call for defeating the far right, through union struggle and through the ballot box with the New Popular Front.

The urgency today is to restore substance to the inter-union framework against the extreme right and to achieve its extension with other unions or in other collective frameworks (feminist, anti-racist, for public liberties…). SUD education defends, with other unions, the idea of a total blockade of the country through a call for a general strike in the event of the extreme right coming to power.

The fight against the far-right that SUD education defends involves the fight against the racist, sexist and LGBTiphobic oppressions that it carries, but it also involves building a balance of power and social struggles.

In our national education sector, the 10 years of power of E. Macron and his (8!) ministers were particularly difficult for the school, the staff and the students.

For SUD education, the social and political situation, the violence of the attacks by the State and governments against workers require serious inter-union exchanges to build tools of struggle and promote unity in the service of the interests of staff. Indeed, as we saw during the mobilization against pension reform, the world of work must mobilize to such a degree that the unity of all the forces of social transformation is more than necessary to achieve victories which improve the lives of all and permanently push back the far right.

It is this analysis and our unitary fundamentals which governed the decision of SUD education to respond favorably to the FSU’s proposal to build a new union tool, a common house of unionism of struggle and social transformation. This proposal made to the CGT and Solidaires is currently materializing through joint work between the CGT and the FSU. SUD education endorses the principles of its Solidaires trade union which reaffirms in its statutes working to bring together “all employees who think that the weakness of French trade unionism lies primarily in its divisions, which they do not consider definitive and irremediable. This gathering is not an end in itself.â€. The urgency of the political situation and the FSU’s proposal seem to us to be invitations to accomplish what these statutes propose.
