As the U.S. and Israel’s conflict with Iran reaches its 44th day on Sunday, a lengthy negotiation session between the United States and Iran concluded without a peace agreement, leaving uncertainty about when discussions will resume.

During a press conference in Pakistan, Vice President JD Vance announced the unsuccessful outcome of the 21-hour negotiation with Iran. Vance mentioned that due to Iran’s refusal to compromise on its nuclear ambitions, he and his team would be returning to the U.S.

“Our return to the United States is without an agreement. We have clearly communicated our non-negotiable terms, what we are willing to concede, and what we are not prepared to concede,” Vance stated. “Despite our best efforts, Iran has chosen not to accept our conditions.”

“The fundamental requirement for us is to have a concrete commitment from Iran that they will not pursue nuclear weapons or the means to swiftly obtain them,” Vance informed the media. “This is the key objective of the U.S. President and what we have been striving for in these talks.”

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump is intensifying U.S. operations to reopen the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, where a significant portion of the world’s oil traffic flows daily. Iran’s control over the strait has given it a tactical advantage in the conflict, causing a spike in global energy prices.

Since the beginning of the war, over 3,000 individuals in Iran have lost their lives, along with at least 13 U.S. military personnel and more than 1,900 people in Lebanon.

Trump announces US initiative to ‘blockade’ Strait of Hormuz

8:30 a.m. ET: President Trump declared the immediate commencement of blocking ships from entering or leaving the Strait of Hormuz by the U.S. Navy. He cited Iran’s claim of being unable to locate all the mines it had laid in the strait as the reason for maintaining its closure.

“As of now, the United States Navy, the most superior in the world, will initiate the process of BLOCKADING all ships attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Sunday. “Ultimately, we aim for an ‘ALL BEING ALLOWED TO GO IN, ALL BEING ALLOWED TO GO OUT’ scenario, but Iran’s refusal due to the unknown presence of mines constitutes a form of global extortion. Leaders of nations, particularly the United States, will not succumb to extortion. I have instructed the Navy to intercept vessels in international waters that have paid tolls to Iran. No vessel paying an unlawful toll will have safe passage on the open seas. Furthermore, we will begin neutralizing the mines laid by Iran in the Strait. Any Iranian who engages in hostilities against us or peaceful vessels will face severe consequences. Iran possesses the means to resolve this crisis, which has already had a devastating impact on their country.”

Israel and Lebanon to conduct peace talks in Washington

8:30 a.m. ET: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed his approval for direct talks with Lebanon, while the office of Lebanese President Joseph Aoun announced forthcoming negotiations between the two nations in Washington on Tuesday.

One of Iran’s conditions for a ceasefire is for Israel to halt its attacks on Lebanon, but Israel has asserted its intention to continue its military operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
