This year again, the eco-delegates of the Soult-Riess school campus in Mazamet mobilized in favor of the environment.
Supervised by their CPE, Gaétan Dusseaux and Gauthier Barreiro-Lorenzo, as well as their education for sustainable development (ESD) representative, Corinne Laval, the students were able to “Act for biodiversity”, according to the theme chosen. Already, last year, the “sustainable development week” had mobilized, among other things, for the protection of birds.
As part of this project, several concrete actions were carried out to promote local fauna and flora: organic sunflower feeders manufactured in the establishment were installed with, in parallel, fallows of honey-producing flowers intended to attract and support pollinating insects, essential to the balance of ecosystems.
The students tackled the planting of an endemic hedge, made up of local species. This technical stage was supervised by the Arbres et Paysages Tarnais association, involved in teaching in schools. She was represented by a regular: Gauthier Oustric.
The Mazamet town hall offered the essential mulch and all the school staff mobilized alongside the eco-delegates: the agents, Serge and Thierry, the teachers, the management, etc. Everyone was thanked for this unifying action.
This work, carried out in good spirits, made it possible to enrich the plant landscape of the establishment with local species favorable to biodiversity: saskatoon trees, blood dogwoods and other species providing berries for bird food.
When they have reached a good size, these plantations will not only offer a refuge and a source of food for the birds, but will also participate in the creation of ecological corridors in the heart of the establishment.
