A good fighting game to come
We were invited to preview the game Invicible VS for a few hours. We remind you that the game takes place in the universe of the animated series Invicible, itself based on the Comics series of the same name. The series is available on the Amazon Prime Video platform.
And me, personally, I looked like a bit of an idiot that day because I don’t know the series. My disenchantment, coupled with a real disappointment for superheroes, having not subsided, the adventures of a teenager who discovers his powers interests me as much as knowing if a snail can eat flan.
If I have since caught up, in part, by watching a few episodes and confirming that superheroes are indeed boring, I discovered this universe with an eye devoid of any story, any character and therefore, any power.
Invicible VS is a 3v3 fighting game. In other words, you will choose 3 characters to form your team. And so does your opponent. Note that you can choose the same ones. And that everyone will have several costumes, to unlock during the game (Omni-Man was the only one to have a package, during this hands-on, but all offered at least one alternative version). It is indeed better to have different costumes if you choose the same fighters, to avoid mixing up.
10 characters were proposed. Of the 18 that will be included in total. We will notably have Robot, Dupli-Kate, Bulletproof, Atom Eve, Allen the Alien, Rex Splode… and Invicible, of course.
Each character has their own moves and their own combos. And his own finishing move, of course.
In terms of gameplay, well… we haven’t revolutionized the genre since Street Fighter II, eh. Which is not necessarily a fault, mind you. We chain punches, we try combos, we try to catch our opponent, we try to counter… Having 3 fighters makes it possible to do combos between characters, to call one in support to strike or counter. And in the end, if you do well, when you kill your opponent, you dismember him or he explodes into a bloody mess.
It’s smooth, well animated, in short, not much to say about it: the game is clean, responsive and the fights follow one another at a good pace. To play with several people, with friends, of course because it’s funnier like that…
If there is still a bit of balancing (Anissa was great), if we can above all, and this is the biggest downside, regret that the decorations are not destructible, which would have fit well with the animated series (and the Comics for that matter), from what we have seen, the game promises to be a very good fighting game. The versions of the characters are more stylized than in the anime, it moves well, it’s really pleasant to hold and the blood squirts in a very enjoyable way.
In short, can’t wait for the release.
