While many games use the Esports World Cup as the venue for a major tournament but otherwise save their flagship event for elsewhere, some titles use the Saudi festival as the venue for the biggest moment of their competitive calendar. This is the case, for example, of the Call of Duty: Warzone competition, which will finally benefit from a more important international event starting this summer.
Known as the Call of Duty: Warzone Resurgence Series, this event is considered the “crown jewel” of the competitive calendar, as it brings together the best teams from around the world for a tournament where a million dollars is at stake.
Unlike past events, all roads will lead to this tournament, with qualification ensured through participation in regional events around the world. Regarding the distribution of the 32 places, we are told the following:
- The top 5 teams that have yet to qualify for EWC from COD:WRS Atlanta to DreamHack.
- Top 6 COD:WRS Championship Qualifying Teams: NA
- Top 6 teams from COD:WRS Championship Qualifiers: EU
- The top 3 qualifying teams for the COD:WRS championship: LATAM North
- The top 2 qualifying teams for the COD:WRS championship: LATAM South
- Top 3 teams in COD:WRS Championship qualifying: MENA
- Top 2 teams from COD:WRS Championship Qualifiers: APAC
This appears to be the format going forward as well, suggesting that Call of Duty: Warzone esports is about to take a much-needed, official, more structured step forward.
