On April 7, the jury of the 2026 Youth Photography Competition evaluated the photos of nearly 200 exceptional candidates from middle and high schools participating in the final.
The competition was organized by the Department of Education and Training of He Chi Minh City in collaboration with Tuoi Tre newspaper, Phuong Nam Education Investment and Development Joint Stock Company (SEDIDCO) and the joint stock company import-export manager Viet Hong – the exclusive distributor of Nikon in Vietnam.
At the end of March, participants took part in the final of a field photography competition at the fishing port of Binh Chau (formerly Ba Ria, Vung Tau province) with the theme “Sparkling Colors”. Each participant had to produce a report consisting of a compulsory section capturing moments from their trip and a free section in different destinations, thus demonstrating their skills in observation, composition and visual storytelling.
During the jury deliberation session, photographer Nguyen Hong Nga, vice-president of the Ho Chi Minh City Photography Association, said that the quality of the photos presented this year demonstrated a clear improvement in student performance. Numerous photographic series have demonstrated great maturity in observation and a remarkable ability to tell stories.
Through each work, participants gradually develop their aesthetic thinking, sense of observation and expressive skills, which are also important elements of a holistic education.
“You all have ideas, you have cultivated them and you have prepared very well. Many works demonstrate daring compositions and innovative approaches,” commented Nga.
Ms. Nga believes that integrating photography into school activities helps students discover their passion from a young age and benefit from more systematic supervision and teaching.
From her observations of the competition venue, she noted a creative and stimulating atmosphere, with the candidates showing eagerness and enthusiasm in an open space, close to everyday life, imbued with the naivety and innocence of the participants, which nevertheless constitutes a very valuable source of material creative.
The final results are expected to be announced at the awards ceremony at the end of April 2026.
