Confirmed price and assumed positioning: AMD is pushing its X3D series towards creation with a more expensive and more energy-consuming Dual Edition model.
Ryzen 9 9950X3D2: price, date and positioning
AMD officialise le Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Ã 899 $ with availability on 22 avril. The announcement comes from David McAfee, VP and GM of Ryzen CPU and Radeon graphics. The price contrasts with previous leaks, higher at certain resellers.

Priced at $899, this model is positioned $200 above the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, launched at $699, an increase of 29%. Taking into account a price currently observed at €639 for the 9950X3D on Amazon, the real difference reaches rather 33% at the launch of the 9950X3D2, which corresponds to an estimated price of around €849. It thus establishes itself as the new high-end reference on the general public AM5 platform.
Specifications and target
The product sheet announces 16 cÅ“urs Zen 5 / 32 threadsand boost jusqu’à 5,6 GHz, 192 Mo L3 cache and a TDP de 200 W. Total cache reached 208 Mo including the L2. Compatibility AM5, DDR5 et PCIe 5.0with support for current AM5 chipsets.

AMD is clearly orienting this SKU towards content creation rather than gaming. The brand announces a gain of +5 % Ã +13 %linked in part to the envelope of 200 W which makes the 9950X3D2 the first X3D desktop model delivered originally with this power ceiling.
Context and market implications
In conclusion, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition is a SKU that fully assumes its niche positioning. At $899, or around €849 to expect from us, AMD is clearly not trying to seduce gamers, even demanding ones: the 9800X3D remains, and will remain, the best performance/price ratio in gaming on AM5. This 9950X3D2 is aimed at a very specific profile, that of the content creator who wants to combine the double 3D cache on the two CCDs and a TDP raised to 200 W to get the last percent in heavy productivity.
And that’s where the problem lies a little. An announced gain of +5 to +13% for an additional $200 and a thermal envelope that explodes the usual X3D ceiling, this necessarily raises questions about the real performance of the operation. We’re moving from an X3D range historically renowned for its exemplary energy efficiency to a model that demands serious cooling and a power supply to match. The entry ticket is therefore not limited to the €849 of the processor.
The fact remains that AMD is locking the high-end AM5 with this launch and sending a clear signal to Intel a few weeks before the Arrow Lake Plus refresh: on the general public desktop, the absolute reference in creation remains red. Final verdict at the time of independent tests, where we will see if this +13% really justifies the premium. To follow closely on April 22.
