In common front, the unions called on workers in the different sectors managed by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation (FWB) to demonstrate. Last October, the FWB government completed a budget which is based on a series of savings to be made in various areas, from education to culture, through childhood, sports and research.

This Thursday morning, in the streets of Brussels, the unions invited workers from all sectors managed by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation to demonstrate as a common front.

Teachers, already heavily mobilized in recent months, will be on the streets. In schools, disruptions are expected. A number of establishments have already warned parents to expect teachers to be on strike. Remember that schools have an obligation to welcome students whether classes can be given or not.

Teachers’ unions continue to be mobilized against the reforms led by the Minister of Education, Valérie Glatigny (MR). In particular, the unions are united against the announced end of appointments and the establishment of a “CDI-E”, an indefinite-term contract intended for new teachers. They also criticize the increase in the workload of certain teachers as well as other cost-saving measures.

At the beginning of February, the FWB government adopted certain accompanying measures to soften the effects of the savings measures. This does not prevent the unions from maintaining pressure to push back the executive of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.

Note that the Mars Attacks collective, born from the grassroots, which brings together teachers, also called on its supporters to go to Brussels to participate in the demonstration.
