Hungary: Peter Magyar is banking on a rapprochement with Brussels to conquer power

Ex-diplomat in Brussels, executive of the national-populist regime in Hungary and husband of the powerful Minister of Justice, the Peter Magyar of yesteryear was not destined to embody the number one adversary of power, whom he criticizes at each of his countless meetings. But since his spectacular rebellion in February 2024, provoked by a presidential pardon scandal in a child abuse case, the 45-year-old lawyer has become step by step the one who could well overthrow his former model, Viktor Orban, during the elections on April 12.
