The Minister of Education Édouard Geffray said on Saturday that he would like the granting of subsidies to associations working in school or after-school settings to be conditional on the implementation of training on sexual violence.

Asked by franceinfo about the plan presented Friday by the mayor of Paris Emmanuel Grégoire in the face of sexual violence in after-school education, Édouard Geffray stressed that “around a hundred associations” participating in the public education service benefited from subsidies each year.

“I would like to condition the granting of subsidies to training on systematic gender-based and sexual violence for all volunteers and staff of these associations,” he explained.

“Firm in spotting and detection”

“Everyone must (…) do housework and be extremely firm in identifying and detecting, and more simply also train these personnel to detect this violence,” added the Minister of Education.

“Zero tolerance”, “total transparency”, “culture of reporting”… The new mayor of Paris, Emmanuel Grégoire, unveiled on Friday a vast plan to put an end to sexual violence in after-school settings, hoping to restore the trust of families shaken for months by this scandal.

He notably announced that, in the next two months, training on the prevention of violence against minors would be “generalized” to the city’s 14,000 leaders, before the opening in September 2026 of an “after-school school” providing two days of initial training obligatory, all statuses combined.
