(WTAP) – Here’s a look at your afternoon headlines and weather for Monday, April 6.

A quiet stretch of weather is expected for the Mid-Ohio Valley this week, with cold mornings being the main concern at the start of the week.

A Frost Advisory was in place Monday morning until 10 a.m., and a Freeze Watch has been issued for southeast Ohio, likely to turn into a freeze warning for Tuesday morning. Temperatures could drop into the low 30s in some areas, with even colder conditions possible Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, potentially reaching the upper 20s.

For those with outdoor plants, it’s advised to cover them until Wednesday morning.

Temperatures are predicted to rise later in the week, with highs returning to the 70s by Thursday. Expect sunny skies and some passing clouds. There may be a chance of showers overnight Friday, but overall the forecast remains mostly dry heading into the weekend.


The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Marietta Post is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Monday morning, resulting in the death of a 25-year-old on Route 7 near Marietta.

The crash happened at around 6:15 a.m. at Route 7 and Archers Fork Road in Independence Township. The collision involved a vehicle driven by Hailey Ball, 25, who was pronounced dead at the scene after a dump truck struck her car. Route 7 was closed for about three hours for response and investigation. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash.


Two Parkersburg residents have been arrested in connection with a burglary investigation in Calhoun County, with around $100,000 worth of suspected stolen property recovered by authorities.

West Virginia State Police started looking into multiple burglaries in Calhoun County in February 2026 and identified suspects Caleb Wayne Hart, 36, and Julie Shay Spry, 34. After a vehicle driven by Hart was stopped in Wood County on April 2, a significant amount of stolen property was found. A search of a residence in Parkersburg the following day led to the recovery of about $100,000 in suspected stolen goods. Hart and Spry were arrested and charged with possession of stolen property. The investigation is ongoing with more charges pending.


Memorial Health System is offering reduced-cost lab screenings in Sistersville and Belpre this spring to promote preventive care and early detection.

The screenings will include a comprehensive metabolic panel with lipid profile, thyroid-stimulating hormone test, complete blood count, A1C test, and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test for men. The cost is $45 for women and $55 for men, with fasting required 12 hours before testing. Registration is necessary, with walk-ins not accepted. Ohio’s first Buc-ee’s location is opening in Huber Heights, featuring over 100 gas pumps, 24 EV charging stations, more than 700 parking spaces, and 24/7 service, along with the chain’s popular snacks like Beaver Nuggets. The grand opening, with Gov. Mike DeWine in attendance, is scheduled for 1 p.m. at 8000 OH-235.
