Diplomacy – With an investment of 0 million, the American Consulate in Casablanca gets a facelift and moves to Casa Finance City

The United States is opening a new page in its diplomatic presence in Morocco. The American Mission announced on Saturday April 4 the transfer of its Consulate General in Casablanca to a new ultra-modern complex located in Casa Finance City, marking a symbolic step in a 250-year-old bilateral relationship.

This move concerns all consulate services, currently distributed between the building on Boulevard Moulay Youssef and the Dar America cultural center, located in Gauthier.

Service Transition Schedule

The transfer schedule was set in several stages:

  • April 21, 2026: last day of services to American citizens and visas at the Moulay Youssef Boulevard site

  • April 28, 2026: resumption of these services in the new complex at Casa Finance City

Concerning the Dar America cultural center:

During this transition phase, emergency assistance services to US citizens will remain operational.

A strategic investment of $300 million

Located in the heart of the new urban center Casa Anfa, the consular complex – located rue des Liserons – embodies American ambitions in terms of modern and sustainable diplomacy. The project, costing more than $300 million, has generated hundreds of jobs and contributed up to $100 million to the Moroccan economy during its construction.

The site incorporates high environmental standards: solar energy, water-saving developments and accessibility to public transport. It is also aiming for international LEED environmental certification.

A renewed symbol of the Moroccan-American partnership

For the United States Ambassador to Morocco, Duke Buchan, this inauguration goes beyond the simple real estate dimension. It “celebrates both a modern symbol of American diplomacy and an enduring friendship spanning 250 years.”

Same tone from Consul General Marissa Scott, who emphasizes that this new infrastructure will “better serve Moroccan and American citizens” and further strengthen ties between the two countries.

Morocco occupies a special place in American history: it was the first country to recognize the United States in 1777. Today, the Kingdom is home to both the oldest American diplomatic representation abroad – the American Legation in Tangier – and now one of the most modern, with this new consulate in Casablanca.

Casablanca, strategic crossroads of world history

The historical dimension of Casablanca in international relations is not limited to the centuries-old friendship between Rabat and Washington. The city was, in the middle of the Second World War, the scene of a major event: the Casablanca Conference, held in January 1943.

This strategic meeting brought together American President Franklin D. Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. It marked a decisive turning point in the conduct of the war, with the announcement of the doctrine of “unconditional surrender” of the Axis powers.

This historical precedent still gives Casablanca a unique geopolitical dimension today, reinforcing the symbolic significance of the installation of the new American consulate in the economic capital of the Kingdom.

A passage of witness between history and modernity, like a partnership that Rabat and Washington intend to maintain over the long term.
