In Djerba, hotels are preparing for the 2026 season, far from the tumult of the world

The month of April is traditionally the month which marks the reopening of hotels which had closed at the end of the last season. Some new features are also to be expected, very far from the climate of international gloom.

On April 4, 2026, Club Med Djerba La Douce will reopen its doors. Like every year at this time, this reopening is the sign of a generally promising season. This month, all the small units which traditionally close in winter are also preparing to resume service.

Including the entire Djerba-Zarzis area, the overall supply should therefore be around 36,000 beds at the height of summer, the same capacity which had made it possible in 2025 to total 7.3 million nights, or 25% of the total nights recorded nationally.

Even if the current war in the Middle East haunts people’s minds, Djerba intends to be the haven of serenity and carefreeness that it has always claimed. Some hotels are even fully booked for the season, announcing Stop Sale as said in the jargon.

Projects are progressing

A sign of the prevailing tranquility, several new features are to be expected. First of all, the progress of the construction of the Sunrise Palace hotel under the Marriott brand. The one that was previously Les Sirènes has been completely transformed and will welcome its first guests in its 470 rooms (5 stars) from spring 2027 according to estimates.

In the short term, it is mainly the intentions of the Lebanese group Lancaster which are attracting attention. Since April 1, this operator has taken over the operation of Dar Jerba under a 15-year rental contract signed with the company that owns the complex, Tourgueness (owned by the Libyan group Lafico since its privatization).

Initially, these are the two functional hotels, namely Dar Narjess and Dar Zahra (while the Dar El Menara apart-hotel finally closed to join the Dar Yasmine and Dahlia, the two other units not operated for several years).

In the short term, the new arrival is talking about injecting an initial amount of 30 MD for a seasonal facelift because the operation of the two hotels will continue without interruption this summer, notably in partnership with Blue Style, the Czech tour operator which has major commitments on the complex (having itself operated it since 2024) and thus ensure the continuity of contracts already signed.

Lancaster’s vision

Remodel the complex in the form of a village managed under the LPD formula (accommodation/breakfast) and where many themed restaurants with different brands would be located. This is the first idea that the new operator of Dar Jerba is considering.

The 2nd phase of investment will then consist of renovating the complex’s famous multipurpose room, which has been abandoned for several years despite its capacity to accommodate nearly 1,000 people, which would provide real added value in terms of conferences and other large-scale national and international events.

The open-air amphitheater has also caught the attention of the Lebanese who are already planning there with the possibility of organizing concerts with international artists. As for Dar Menara, located opposite the complex, the project involves the creation of a luxury apartment hotel.

A vision of the future which will certainly only need to come to fruition and not remain a dead letter as was the case for many other projects.
