A woman is taking legal action against American Dream Mall in New Jersey after claiming she was struck in the face by a knife while riding a Nickelodeon-themed attraction. Xianghua Nan was on the Loud House ride in the Nickelodeon Universe Theme Park inside the mall when “a Swiss [Army] knife became airborne and struck plaintiff directly in the face,” as reported by News 12 New Jersey. The incident occurred on July 29, 2025, according to NJ.com.
Nan requested the ride to be stopped, and an employee reportedly retrieved the knife from the ride’s floor. She sustained injuries, including facial lacerations, bruising, spinal trauma, and back injuries, resulting in over $13,000 in medical bills. Witnesses claim that an employee of the defendant was seen laughing, indicating a lack of concern for patron safety.
It remains unclear how the alleged incident led to back and spine injuries, as court documents have not provided an explanation. Nan’s legal team asserts that there were no instructions for riders to empty their pockets before the ride.
The mall’s website explicitly prohibits knives and other weapons, including replicas, on the premises. When approached for comments by NJ.com and News 12 New Jersey, mall officials declined to respond due to the ongoing case.
The Loud House Road Trip ride is described as a family-friendly, magic carpet-type attraction on Coasterpedia.net.
