
In a press release published this Wednesday 1is April, the Minister of National Education announces that he is appointing Cristelle Gillard, delegate for the protection of children at school. She will occupy this position as assistant to the mediator of National Education and Higher Education, Ms. Catherine Becchetti-Bizot. This is a new position created by Minister Édouard Geffray to coordinate school and extracurricular activities.
In the words of the Minister of National Education, this appointment comes within the framework of “the protection of children at school and the fight against violence of all kinds, whether it occurs during school time or outside.” Edouard Geffray has a clear objective: “guaranteeing a safe and protective school environment for each child”.
The Minister of National Education is strengthening its security guideline within establishments. Last February, Edouard Geffray sent a letter to parents in which he denounced the trivialization of violence in the school environment. This appointment also follows several recent reports in the after-school sector.
A control mission
According to the press release, Cristelle Gillard will have to intervene in an appeal: “when the authors of the referral consider that a report of violence or mistreatment has not been handled satisfactorily by the competent local authorities.” His job will consist of receiving the authors of the reports and ensuring that the said requests have been taken care of. If necessary, she can take legal action herself.
Strong experience of the subject
Cristelle Gillard has held numerous positions within National Education. Since 2018, she has been Inspector General within the General Inspectorate of Education, Sport and Research (IGÉSR). For more than three years, she has also been responsible for the “Administrative Investigations – Control – Ethics” division. Finally, for five years, she has been a referent within the framework of the IGÉSR’s permanent mission on gender-based and sexual violence in higher education.
