OpenAI announced its acquisition of the technology news podcast TBPN on Thursday. TBPN, hosted by John Coogan and Jordi Hays, features interviews with major tech leaders like Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and OpenAI co-founder and CEO Sam Altman.

This move reflects a broader shift in media consumption, with independent podcasts and creator-led videos attracting large audiences that rival traditional media companies.

OpenAI’s CEO of AGI Deployment, Fidji Simo, emphasized the importance of fostering constructive conversations about the impact of AI.

Despite the acquisition, TBPN will maintain its editorial independence and continue to choose its own guests.

Altman expressed his support for TBPN, stating, “TBPN is my favorite tech show. We want them to keep that going and for them to do what they do so well.”

While the terms of the deal were not disclosed, TBPN will be integrated into OpenAI’s strategy organization.

Hays praised OpenAI’s commitment to feedback and improving the global understanding of AI technology.

Although TBPN is relatively new, it has already attracted sponsorships from companies like Google’s Gemini, with advertising revenue expected to exceed $30 million this year.
