– The Proclamation sets out how tariffs are calculated to ensure they reflect the true value of imported steel, aluminum, and copper products, not a lower foreign price. – Clear rules are established for calculating Section 232 metals tariffs. – Items made mostly of aluminum, steel, or copper will have a flat 50% tariff on their full value, like steel coils and aluminum sheet. – Articles partially made of steel, aluminum, or copper will face a flat 25% tariff. – Some metal-heavy industrial and electrical equipment will have a 15% tariff until 2027 to support the ongoing industrial base buildout in the United States. – Products made overseas entirely with American steel, aluminum, and copper will have lower tariffs of 10%. – Items with 15% or less steel, aluminum, or copper will be exempt from Section 232 metals tariffs.

STRENGTHENING ECONOMIC AND NATIONAL SECURITY: President Trump has increased tariffs on imported aluminum, steel, and copper to safeguard the national security of the United States, protect vital industries, and support American workers.

– In 2025, the United States became the third-largest steel producer globally due to President Trump’s Section 232 tariffs initiative. New steel plants are being constructed, bringing jobs and revitalization to steel communities. – Over 4 million tons of new steelmaking capacity will be operational soon in states like West Virginia, Arkansas, and South Carolina.

– New aluminum and copper smelting projects are also underway in the U.S. Companies are investing in expanding copper mining, smelting, and fabrication facilities across the country.
