A car crash sparked a fire in Pittsburgh’s Garfield neighborhood near Saint Mary’s Cemetery around 7:30 p.m. The incident occurred when a car crashed into an electric pole on Schenley Avenue, causing a transformer to catch fire. Although no injuries were reported, the fire resulted in power outages affecting hundreds of customers in the area. Duquesne Light crews worked on the scene for several hours.
A vehicle crashed into a utility pole in Pittsburgh’s Garfield neighborhood on Thursday night. Witnesses on Schenley Avenue reported hearing the crash and seeing the transformer catch fire. Photos of the scene showed downed wires and the pole split in two. At one point, Duquesne Light’s outage map indicated over 2,000 customers without power in the vicinity, but most had their power restored by 11 p.m.
