A truck carrying milk overturned on Thursday morning on Interstate 40 in North Carolina. The incident occurred on Interstate 40 westbound near mile marker 93 at the McDowell-Burke County line. The tanker truck spilled its load into Muddy Creek. Emergency teams from McDowell, Burke, and Catawba counties, as well as the North Carolina Regional Hazmat Team from the Asheville Fire Department, are working to contain the spill. The driver of the truck was unharmed. One lane of I-40 westbound has reopened, but drivers should be cautious as emergency crews will be on site throughout the day. The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NC DEQ) is also involved in environmental impact mitigation. The road is expected to be fully open by 4 p.m.
