The Rain Prayer Festival, one of the unique and particularly important cultural and religious activities of the White Thai people, takes place every year on the full moon of the second lunar month. It marks the start of the new sowing season, a special time to pray for an abundant harvest for the villagers and, at the same time, to pass on to younger generations their origins and the harmony that reigns between man and nature.

The offering plate includes typical local products such as rice cooked in bamboo, catfish, boiled chicken, sticky rice, chicken eggs, bitter bamboo shoots… and decorations in the shape of birds and cicadas woven from bamboo strips… The villagers believe that this is a way of expressing their sincere reverence for heaven, earth and spirits.
The ritual of praying for rain is led by the shaman, and everyone gathers to pray. The shaman recites a prayer, confiding to the Then (the celestial being) the suffering of the villagers due to the lack of rain, and imploring the sky to send rain to nourish the fields and the crops. At the end of the prayer, the Then declares that water is granted to the villagers, so that they experience a year of good weather and abundant harvests.

The shaman is responsible for the ritual.
Immediately after the rain prayer ceremony ended, to celebrate the fact that Mr. Then had granted rain, all the Thais and tourists started playing games and participating in folk games, in harmony with the joyful sounds of drums and gongs in a circle dance symbolizing unity.

Mr. Then then performed the ritual of offering water to the villagers.
