Catholic education in Tarn has just decided on its school map for the next school year. Between schools and colleges, four classes will open for six closures. Which establishments are concerned? Here’s what you need to know.

While the standoff has begun on the side of public schools in Tarn around the openings and closings of classes for the next school year, Catholic education, which concerns 11,935 students in the department, has just, for its part, ratified the school map for next September.

In Tarn, private education will lose 2.8 full-time equivalents at the next school year. Four closures in the first degree (one at Saint-Jean Notre-Dame in Mazamet, one at Saint-Joseph de Réalmont, one at the Croix-Haute school in Carmaux, one at Saint-François de Roquecourbe), for two openings (la Colombière de Saïx and Sainte-Croix in Lavaur).

On the college side, the balance remains neutral with two openings for two closings. Saint-Joseph in Gaillac will lose a sixth, but a Ulis class opens in parallel. At Notre-Dame de Castres, a fourth grade will be canceled and a fifth grade class must be opened. A balance made possible by the end of the need groups in sixth and fifth in the majority of establishments. They will be kept in Saint-Sulpice and Castres “where we had more than 30% of students in difficulty in mathematics and French after the sixth grade evaluations”, indicates Gilles Artigue, diocesan director of Catholic education in Tarn.

No change in general high schools, but the number of teaching hours is increasing in these sectors by around twenty hours, the majority at De La Salle high school in Castres. “This comes from the fact that professional sectors are increasingly valued.”

The BTS Ciel, open at the start of the school year in Castres, will see the creation of a second year in September.
