On the beach in Lorient, in front of the Reefer Surf Club surf shack of Ajoe, about forty middle school and high school students from Saint-Martin and Saint-Barth are gathered for a school event organized by UNSS (National Union of School Sport). This is the first time in Saint-Barth for surfing. “We are proud to have been able to set this up,” says Alexis Klauss, Physical Education teacher at Mireille Choisy College. “A surfing section was recently created in Saint-Martin with a team from Robert Weinum High School and Mont des Accords College,” the teacher continues. “There was a first meeting at the beginning of the year in Saint-Martin and the second edition took place in Saint-Barth. In collaboration with Ajoe, who provided us with the club facilities.” Not forgetting the collaboration of the school transport service, which graciously transported the Saint-Martinois students from Gustavia to Lorient. “It’s a great first, congratulates Alexis Klauss. It will also give a boost to the surfing discipline on the Saint-Martin side.” Or how to spread joy and sharing the passion for surfing. And who knows, maybe the emergence of new young champions.
Four Saint-Barth middle school students at the academic championship
