Following a promotion fit for a royal wedding, “The Drama” hits cinemas on April 1st. A quick tête-à-tête with Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, the two lovebirds in this spicy romantic comedy.

What if we don’t truly know the person we share our life with? This is the burning question in “The Drama”, out in cinemas on April 1st. Emma and Charlie are in love and about to get married. However, just days before saying “I do”, what was supposed to be a simple evening with friends over a drink brings them back down to earth. A previously undisclosed secret about their love kindles doubt in Charlie’s mind.

What is “The Drama” with Zendaya and Robert Pattinson all about?

Between tension and chemistry, the duo of Zendaya and Robert Pattinson captures the essence of modern relationships: imperfect yet profoundly human. A film that both disturbs and brings closer together.

During their time in Paris promoting the film, we spoke with Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, both of whom will be seen everywhere this year. The star duo features in Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” and Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune 3” – two of the most anticipated films of 2026.

ELLE: You recently worked on three films together: what did you learn about each other?

ROBERT PATTINSON: She doesn’t sweat (laughs). Even in the desert – while you, you’re sweating. It’s very annoying.

ZENDAYA: I don’t sweat externally… well, in visible areas, but I still get hot. Under my costume, I’m literally baking. You, on the other hand, sweat enough for all of us.

For me, it was so cool to see Robert transition from the character of Charlie in “The Drama” to the character in “Dune 3”. I loved seeing his transformation. I know he’s a very transformative actor and it’s always impressive, but it’s different to see it in person. I thought: “This definitely isn’t Charlie anymore in front of me.” And not just because he’s become blonde (laughs).

ELLE: The film explores that moment when a revelation completely disrupts a relationship. Do you believe we can truly know our partner completely?

R.P.: My father thought a lot about relationships. For him, relationships exist a lot in our heads. We imagine them. But there’s also a romantic way of looking at it. We talked a lot about trust, about how to know if someone is the right person for us. And I think, anyway, we will never know someone completely, and that’s okay. All we need to know is that we love this person, and that’s enough. There’s a mystery to it. Wanting to know all the details… it’s unnecessary.

ELLE: What is your best memory from filming “The Drama”?

Z.: It was a really fun shoot. I loved coming to work every day on this film. Everyone was lovely and the atmosphere was really great. One of my favorite days was filming the dinner scene. For the characters, it was intense, but between takes, we never stopped talking: we would shoot a whole scene chatting, then as soon as we said “cut!”, we would start another conversation… and then “action”, and we’d dive back in. We had a lot of fun.

R.P.: I particularly remember a walk near the park one evening in Boston. The city was so beautiful, it looked like a romantic comedy set. Sometimes, you suddenly realize that you’re really in a movie.

ELLE: Would you recommend this film to future spouses?

Z.: Absolutely. Might as well lay all the cards on the table and see how the other reacts. It’s a good litmus test for couples (laughs). I recommend it to everyone, but it’s definitely a film for a romantic date.

R.P.: Watch your partner’s face closely throughout the entire screening!
