“Clientist issues” and “control”: in Brussels, the PS retains jurisdiction over taxis… once again detached from the Ministry of Mobility

A little reminder is in order. With the thunderous arrival of Uber in Brussels, an endless “taxi crisis” began under Vervoort II. At the end of 2022, a new legal framework finally saw the light of day after almost a decade of political procrastination and strikes. Two categories were created: “taxis de station” (traditional) and “street taxis“(Uber and others, formerly called “LVC“). Each category with its pricing conditions and its numerus clausus.

From €1.80/km to €2.30/km for a trip without reservation: here are the new taxi prices in Brussels

For a classic “station” taxi, the price is set at €2.30 per kilometer, in addition to support (€2.60). For street taxis, prices fall within a range. The minimum price is €1.50 per kilometer with support at €1.50. “Maximum rates are capped at 200% of minimum rates, indicates Bruxelles Mobilité.

“Commissions are only increasing

But for the sector, this pricing straitjacket is too tight due to rising costs and the increase in commissions by the platforms. At Uber, there is talk of a commission of 25%, but it can go up to 35%. At Bolt, it increased from 19.8% to 23.8% in October 2025. “Commissions are only increasing and we no longer have any margin.”deplores Asmaa Snaibi. The drivers are therefore demanding that the government review the rules with “the establishment of a guaranteed minimum net price, excluding commission“.

In addition, application drivers reiterate their request to use their own sites, reserved for station taxis. “These sites are not overused. This will not impact taxis. Customers don’t understand that we don’t use them..”

A taxi federation calls for the resignation of Elke Van den Brandt: “This lady does as she pleases, it’s a disaster”

Another request made: the fact of being able to transfer a license to a family member, in the event of death or serious illness.

“We send out a cry of distress

This Thursday, the street taxi demonstration will begin on Boulevard Pachéco at 9 a.m. The procession will take the Petite Ceinture to Place Poelaert. From there, a delegation will go to the Brussels Parliament. “We are sending out a cry of distress to say that we are no longer able to cope. In addition, with the price of fuel, it is a direct impact“, points out the Anderlecht representative, also denouncing the “abusive blocking” accounts by applications.

As under the previous legislature, the taxi portfolio was split from the Brussels Ministry of Mobility. Once again, it was the PS which obtained the competence, falling into the hands of Karine Lalieux. Contacted by La DH, the Secretary of State has not yet commented on the substance of the demands expressed. “It will take note, during future meetings, of the expectations and current situation of the actors before taking a political position on the government’s decisions and future directions.his office said.

Uride, the new 100% Brussels taxi app that wants to compete with Uber: “We have been abused, both drivers and authorities”

Also, enforcement drivers call on feds to cap – “and this, for all sectors” – platform commissions. “If we do nothing, they will increase without stopping.”
