Primary school students at Saint-Joseph institution recently celebrated the patron saint of their establishment.
In connection with the Eco-School labeling project, the teaching team had chosen to place this day like no other under the theme of solidarity.
Brilliantly orchestrated by Laura Cabus, teacher in preparation for the position of head of the establishment, the day began with a friendly breakfast, blessed by Father Angelo, then shared by all the students, from the small section to CM2, in the courtyard of school.
The morning continued with workshops organized in pairs, bringing together a class of “older” children and a class of “younger” children, thus promoting mutual aid and cooperation.
The teachers showed great creativity in establishing partnerships with local stakeholders to offer students rich and varied experiences.
Awareness, gluttony and big laundry
Four classes went to meet the Petit chien, grand destin association, which trains and provides guide dogs to visually impaired people.
Two other classes collaborated with the solidarity grocery store of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, discovering the realities of poverty while cooking and selling crepes for the benefit of the structure.
In addition, two classes experienced an immersion at the Menton fire station: visit to the facilities, discovery of the equipment, practical exercises… a remarkable experience made possible by the availability of professionals.
Parents of students from the medical field also intervened to raise children’s awareness of hygiene, first aid procedures, medical imaging and knowledge of the human body.
The day was punctuated by many other activities: solidarity sports games, disabled sports workshops, creation of frescoes and even making bread to share.
So many initiatives made possible thanks to the involvement of the parents’ association, strongly mobilized for the occasion.
In the afternoon, the La Grande Lessive exhibition, on the theme “The I(u) of I-We”, allowed us to admire the students’ works around the notions of identity and otherness.
A festive day, rich in meaning and encounters, which delighted young and old. One thing is certain: everyone is already impatiently awaiting the next edition.
