BLITAR – The DPP PDIP has emphasized the principle of independent and active foreign policy in response to the political situation in the Middle East, as stipulated in the 1945 Constitution.
The General Secretary of the PDI Perjuangan DPP, Hasto Kristiyanto, declared on Sunday that the nation’s founders, particularly Bung Karno (the first President of Indonesia Soekarno) and Bung Hatta (the first Vice President of Indonesia Mohammad Hatta), laid down good foundations.
“Indonesian independence is a symbol of freedom for colonized peoples in Asia and Africa. That is why independence, as the right of all peoples, must be defended and cannot be revoked,” he stated in Blitar, as reported by Antara.
Hasto also added during a visit to Bung Karno’s grave in the city of Blitar that independence should not be contradicted by actions of a superpower against a sovereign state.
According to him, these are principles of independent and active foreign policy, so that the Indonesian government is firmly supported by the mission of upholding the 1945 constitution.
The President, he said, has also been in contact with President Prabowo Subianto, discussing national issues and geopolitical problems. The outcomes of these discussions have also been explained, with the key point being that national leaders must unite.
In addition, Megawati, he added, also shared her experiences with President Prabowo. Previously, Megawati had also been invited, along with other country leaders, to meet, but at that time, President Prabowo had engagements outside the region.
PDI-P, he said, also provides firmer suggestions on Indonesia’s attitude towards foreign policy.
Hasto explained that Indonesian independence aimed to build global brotherhood, so as a nation that has experienced oppression, the spirit of independence is for all nations.
“The occupation of the world must be eradicated as it does not align with the principles of humanity and justice. This is what all presidents must pursue,” stated Hasto.
He added that Bung Karno’s leadership, who fought for the nation’s independence, is an example and it is hoped that it will continue in independent and active foreign policy.
Meanwhile, the President of the DPP PDIP Megawati Soekarnoputri visited the tomb of her father Bung Karno in the city of Blitar. Megawati was accompanied by her family and members of the party’s senior management.
During the visit, the group read prayers together and laid flowers. Once completed, the group continued their journey.
