At the start of Holy Week, Leo Through the Pope’s Global Prayer Network and the “Pray with the Pope” campaign, the Holy Father invites the faithful and people of good will to pause for a moment in prayer, in order to recognize and deepen the fact that, behind each ministry, there is a life which also needs proximity and listening.
The international director of the Pope’s Global Prayer Network, Father Cristóbal Fones, indicates that this prayer intention is particularly close to his heart: “The Pope reminds us that we must fraternally support those who support. I myself feel it very closely, because of so many priestly brothers and friends who are going through difficult times, it is fundamental to remember the importance of human accompaniment, sincere friendship and, above all, support in prayer.
In the light of the recent Magisterium of the Church – from the Second Vatican Council to the teachings of the last Sovereign Pontiffs – it is emphasized that the priest is a fragile man who needs mercy, closeness and understanding. This is why it is essential to remember that he must not face moments of discouragement alone, but allow himself to be accompanied and supported by the community.
