Last November, the interns attached to the Assistance publique – Hôpital de Paris (AP-HP) had to, like their comrades, make their choice of internships. Important decisions, which had to be established within the framework of a new territorial policy promoted by the Regional Health Agency. This aimed to direct the interns towards the greater suburbs of île-de-France as well as towards the department of Seine-Saint-Denis.
Furthermore, these choices had to take into account the end of the territorial attractiveness allowance of 1,500 euros for interns and junior doctors choosing an internship in Seine-Saint-Denis and the greater suburbs, “lack of effectiveness demonstrated from the winter semester of 2025†, as highlighted in a document established by the commission medical establishment of the AP-HP.
In the figures, the greater suburbs saw the opening of 132 more positions, an increase of 12%. In total, including Paris and the inner suburbs, the number of open positions increased by 2%, or 111 additional positions. Between 2019 and 2025, the number of open positions in general medicine increased by 14.2%, from 513 to 586.

Overall, the number of filled positions increases slightly between winter 2024 and winter 2025, with 39 additional positions chosen. The GHU Henri-Mondor, based in Créteil, and the GHU Paris-Seine-Saint-Denis, showed the strongest progress, with respectively 35 and 13 new positions filled. However, the situation remains complex for the latter. Indeed, the rate of filled positions at the GHU Paris-Seine-Saint-Denis remains the lowest (77%). Conversely, that of the GHU Sorbonne is the highest (92%).
Concerning general medicine, the number of filled positions increased, from 509 to 569 between 2019 and 2025, an increase of 11.8%. Over this period, the MG represents 57.7% of the total increase in filled positions.
