Department of Rhône is known for recognizing agricultural and artisanal producers in its territory through the Talents du Rhône. But budding and apprentice musicians also have their moment to shine.

On Saturday, March 28th, the community organized its musical talents evening at the Lyon Department Hotel. “Opportunity to highlight music schools in the Rhône region, and to showcase the work of students, teachers, employees, and volunteers,” stated a press release from Rhône.

Innovation, integration: various awards for Beaujolais

Ten awards were given out, one for each music school in the region. Among them, six are from Beaujolais. Chessy/Châtillon Music School won the “Hats off to teachers” award, while Vindry-sur-Turdine Music School received the award for “innovative approach.”

The “music apprenticeship for middle school students” award was presented to Val d’Oingt Music School, “artistic and cultural education” award to Saint-Étienne-des-Oullières Music School, and the “intergenerational” award to Belleville-en-Beaujolais. Lastly, an award for “territorial animation” was given to Muzikadem in Villefranche.

“The young people from our music schools who work all year round have been recognized at events, under the Republic’s command,” declared Martine Publié, vice-president of Rhône in charge of culture, tourism, attractiveness, and community life. It’s a great reward for them.

Over 700,000 euros in subsidies for Rhône music schools

As a reminder, the Department financially supports music schools in the region through various operational and investment subsidies, “to strengthen and consolidate access to arts and culture and support artistic education of Rhône residents throughout their lives.”

Rhône has 49 music schools in partnership with the community, 7,686 students, 697,380 euros in annual operating subsidies to educate students (by 2025), and 20,000 euros in investment to acquire equipment.
