A suspension as a precautionary measure. Laurent Linguet, president of the University of Guyana, is suspended from his functions as of today, while disciplinary proceedings will be initiated against him, the Ministry of Higher Education announced this Wednesday, April 1 in a press release.

The ministry did not detail the reasons for the administrative investigation carried out against the teacher, nor the inherent conclusions. This suspension, provided for by article L.951-4 of the Education Code, cannot exceed one year and does not result in deprivation of salary.

Un signalement effectué auprès du parquet de Cayenne

Laurent Linguet, professor of electrical engineering and president of this university since 2023, is the target of an administrative investigation for suspicion of sexist and sexual violence against members of the staff, said a source close to the matter.

His suspension as a precautionary measure “with immediate effect” comes as part of an administrative investigation carried out by the general inspection of education, sport and research, according to the ministry. A source close to the case specifies that the investigation has been underway since November and was accompanied by a report to the Cayenne public prosecutor’s office in February.
