This year, the bells may see red. With cocoa prices reaching record highs at the time of stockpiling, Easter chocolate has never been so expensive. However, with an average consumption of 7 kg per year per French person, there is no question of ignoring this pleasure. Here are our tips for limiting the bill.

If the budget is tight, be careful not to give in to the sirens of first prices. Very often, these products are saturated with sugar and additives. The expert advice is simple: look at the composition. Below 35% cocoa, we can no longer really talk about chocolate. It is better to buy a slightly reduced quantity, but focus on a quality product.

Good anti-waste plans

To find good chocolate at a bargain price, turn to digital. Specialized applications, such as Too Good To Go, “Easter baskets” are regularly put online. For its part, the Willy Anti-Waste app currently offers a special section with reductions ranging from -30% to -50% on overstocks or perfectly consumable end-of-series items.

Vigilance in supermarkets: “buy 1, 50% off the 2nd” promotions abound. Be careful though: this is only a deal if you were planning to buy two in the first place.

Marketing is terrible, especially at Easter. Does the little golden rabbit in the window for €3.99 seem affordable? In reality, this often amounts to nearly €80 per kilo. For comparison, excellent chocolate is generally around €50 per kilo. Beyond that, you pay for the packaging and the brand more than the raw material.

“Homemade”: half the price

To make real savings, the most radical solution remains homemade. The recipe is ultra-simple: First melt a good bar of chocolate. Pour into a mold then place in the refrigerator for a few hours. The result? A quality, personalized chocolate that will cost you on average half as much as on the shelves.

The good news comes from the markets: the price of cocoa is currently trending downward. As distributors begin to build up their stocks for next year, if the chain plays along, Easter 2026 eggs and bunnies should be significantly more affordable for our wallets.
