The rector of UQAM took part in a mission to Belgium alongside the Minister of Higher Education of Quebec, Martine Biron, in order to strengthen the University’s collaborations with Belgian establishments.

As part of this mission, which took place from March 25 to 31 in Belgium and France, the Quebec delegation aimed to boost university and research partnerships, conclude new cooperation agreements and reaffirm the links between Quebec and Europe.

On March 27, the rector signed two agreements. An Erasmus+ agreement was concluded with the University of Namur (UNamur) in order to facilitate student mobility in the field of communication, more precisely at the level of the baccalaureate in communication and the master’s degree in communication (concentration in video games and gamification). A roadmap was also signed with the Catholic University of Louvain (UCLouvain) in order, in particular, to intensify research collaborations, in particular those carried out by the Center for Interdisciplinary Research on Diversity and Democracy (CRIDAQ).

The rector also participated in a meeting of the Quebec delegation with the Academy of Research and Higher Education of French-speaking Belgium (ARES) as well as a round table bringing together representatives of Belgian universities French speakers. The rector of the University of Namur, Annick Castiaux, as well as the rector of UCLouvain, Françoise Smets, took part in these discussions.

On the sidelines of the mission, the rector was received by representatives of the King Baudouin Foundation, interested in UQAM’s health initiatives as well as its involvement in the revival of the Latin Quarter.
