The Israeli army declared on Tuesday that it is ready to continue the war with Iran for several weeks, just hours after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s statements claiming that Israel had achieved more than half of its military goals against the Islamic Republic.

“The halfway point is clearly behind us. But I do not want to set a timetable,” said the Israeli executive leader in an interview with the conservative American channel Newsmax, indicating that he was speaking “in terms of missions, and not necessarily in terms of duration.”

When asked about the Israeli army’s position, their international spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani, stated that the continuation of operations depends on the decisions of political leaders.

“We are ready to continue our operations in the weeks to come,” he assured during an online press briefing. “We have the targets, the ammunition, the personnel for that. And it’s up to the leaders to decide.”

Since February 28, the Middle East has been engulfed in a war triggered by joint strikes from the United States and Israel against Iran, to which Tehran is responding with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and several countries in the region.

American President Donald Trump had initially estimated the military operations to last between four to six weeks.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Monday predicted that the war would last “weeks” rather than “months,” expressing optimism about the possibility of working with elements within the Iranian government.
