Istres, sport is barrier-free. For its new edition, Handi’Move Day asserts itself as much more than just an awareness day. “It’s almost a sports festival for sports and disabilities,” enthuses Arnaud Gébleux on Maritima. The goal? To break taboos and show that sport is a universal playing field.

More than 20 disciplines to discover for free

The Podium complex will come alive with the rhythm of 15 local clubs mobilized for the occasion. In total, over twenty disciplines will be offered for trial, from the most classic to the most unusual:

  • Sports collectifs: basketball, handball, volleyball, and even walking football.

  • Precision and combat: archery, laser shooting, boxing, and adapted judo.

  • Sensations: rowing, tandem mountain biking, and equitherapy.

  • Paralympic disciplines: Boccia (a precision version of pétanque) and cécifoot (football for visually impaired).

“Putting yourself in the other’s place”: an immersive experience

The strength of Handi’Move Day lies in its concept: everyone, whether able-bodied or disabled, is invited to practice activities in “adapted” mode. “We will have everyone practicing in a situation of disability. The aim is to inform and raise awareness with the general public. By adapting the activity, one can participate regardless of their profile, able-bodied or disabled. In Istres, we are fortunate to have facilities that can accommodate all audiences,” highlights Arnaud Gébleux.

An easy access to sports all year round

Beyond this day, OMS of Istres facilitates long-term sports engagement. Arnaud Gébleux points out that a unique system simplifies the lives of families: “With just one registration with the OMS, you have access to all activities all year round.”
